Associate Spotlight

Melissa Brady

Quality Assurance Manager

“I like knowing that I’m making an impact. We get to help the organization, help individual associates solve problems, and help our customers. Even if it’s all in the background and behind the scenes, it matters, and it helps people do what they need to do to be successful.”

Melissa has seen and done a lot in the past 15 years — and she’s loved every minute! She credits the company with feeding her natural passion for learning, fueling her motivation to help others, and helping her grow by challenging her in new ways. For her, work is all about being part of making a difference for others.

Since her first day in the sales management training program in 2006, Melissa has had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles, from the warehouse and sales counter to inventory and operations. She interacts with and supports many groups, including customers, suppliers, and associates throughout the organization. With her experience, Melissa believes all these experiences have given her a unique perspective on and appreciation for the diversity of the business and the strength of the associates who make things happen all day, every day.

Today as Quality Assurance Manager she is responsible for our quality management system and ISO 9001 accreditation program. As part of her efforts to continue sustaining operational excellence, she develops, implements, maintains, and improves processes and systems to ensure compliance with our operations model, quality standards, and industry regulations. In a nutshell, she says the ultimate goal of operational excellence is making sure we’re good at what we do and creating a memorable, consistent experience for our customers.

Melissa’s advice to anyone starting out in the industrial field — which can really be applied to anyone regardless of where they are in their career — is to not be afraid of new challenges. She encourages others to step outside their comfort zones, as she often did in her career, to acquire new skills to learn and grow. In the end, she says, take the chance. With an open mind, positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic you may just surprise yourself at what you can do.”

Questions & Answers
If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
Answer:

“Joy. Over the years I've heard two phrases related to that which kind of stuck with me and one has been to choose joy and the other has been to joyously live each day. Both have really stuck with me because finding joy sometimes isn’t easy. With everything going on globally and personally, we’re often cloaked in a heaviness due to difficult circumstances, but when you’re intentional about choosing joy and trying to live each day joyously, it can not only have a tremendous impact for you as an individual, but the world around us and I really think we could all use some of that.”

What is something you’re planning on doing in the next year that you’ve never done before?
Answer:

“I am planning to take a trip to Croatia.”

What is the weirdest fact you know?
Answer:

“A group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope.”

What is your favorite food?
Answer:

“Generally speaking, I like good food with good people, but if I have to pick one, it would either be mint chocolate chip ice cream or bacon.”

What is your biggest kitchen fail?
Answer:

“Eggplant. Melissa, zero, Eggplant all the wins. It doesn't matter how I try to cook that stuff, sauté it, roast it, I can whatever it. It's going to come out two ways, raw or mushy. Neither which are very scrumptious. I just cannot cook it for the life of me.”

If you were a pair of shoes, what would you be? Why?
Answer:

“Something comfortable, practical for a variety of situations because you never know what situation you’re going to find yourself in, and maybe a little bit fun. Maybe something classic, but in a bold or vibrant color, a little unexpected twist.”
