Project Background
An aerospace industry leader owned 22 manufacturing locations. Each facility managed its own procurement and inventory separately. That means there were multiple supply chain software platforms, different distributors for different product needs, and limited visibility to the products and processes of the other manufacturing facilities. The lack of a global supply chain process and unified technology integrations created large, difficult-to-manage inventories. As a result, the aerospace leader was left to deal with an abundance of non-moving products and a reactive procurement group forced to expedite materials through distribution.
Challenge
The lack of supply chain processes and technology resulted in a large, difficult-to-manage inventory. In addition, there was a disconnect between procurement strategy and availability, resulting in unnecessary expense.
Solution
The customer contacted Ferguson Industrial because of our reputation for seamless, transparent, and efficient supply chain management solutions. Our integrated supply specialists worked to identify the customer’s problems and provide a unified solution to reduce costs, organize procurement processes, and manage inventory. We implemented our Automated Supply Program (ASP), a proprietary purchasing and inventory management system, to standardize the 22 manufacturing locations.
How did Ferguson’s supply chain management solutions help?
- 12% Total Cost of Ownership savings in the first year
- Lower product costs
- Decreased inventory investment
- Improved procurement life cycle
- Inventory sharing capabilities
- Automated key performance indicator reports are generated monthly at both the individual locations and the national level
Method
Our ASP inventory management software was implemented in each of the 22 aerospace manufacturing locations. As a result, it standardized the company’s procurement and inventory management processes. Furthermore, our integrated supply solutions created a national inventory strategy, ensuring the right products were available as needed and that inventory could be shared across all locations. ASP allows the customer to proactively negotiate their requirements directly with manufacturers and standardize products and processes across all their locations.
